Robert Jospe’

Having studied with Tony Williams in 1970 and through years of playing, (including 15 years living in New York City), Robert Jospe’ has earned the respect of musicians nationwide such as Pat Matheny, Michael and Randy Brecker, Joe Henderson, Dave Liebman, and John Abercrombie.
In 1999 Jospe’ released his second Inner Rhythm CD Blue Blaze featuring seven-time Grammy winner Michael Brecker along with Royce Campbell and John D’earth. As a sideman he has performed on numerous albums and soundtracks for PBS and the Discovery Channel. Jospe’ has appeared in concert with Pat Matheny, Michael Brecker, Joe Henderson, Dave Liebman, John Abercrombie, Dave Mathews, Tim Reynolds, Carter Beauford, Tal Farrow, Emily Remler, John McCutcheon, Robin and Linda Williams, Peter Kater, Paul Reisler and Trapezoid, Greg Howard, John D’earth and many other well known names in jazz, rock and folk music.
His first album of original compositions entitled Inner Rhythm on the Tundra label also featured Michael Brecker, along with Dave Liebman, John D’earth and John Abercrombie. A member of the University of Virginia’s music department faculty since 1989, Jospe’ teaches jazz drumming and is a member of UVA’s highly acclaimed faculty jazz ensemble, The Free Bridge Quintet. Since 1992, he has received an ongoing touring grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts for his jazz and world bet ensemble Inner Rhythm and his educational lecture/demonstration, The World Beat Workshop.
