The Red Hot Smoothies 

Nobody swings like the Smoothies. They’ve played for weddings, receptions, fraternity/sorority parties, anniversary celebrations, wine tastings, black tie affairs, block parties, and conventions of every kind.  They were the primary band at the Charlottesville Omni hotel for five years, did a year at the Boar's Head Inn, and have been the feature dance band at First Night Virginia for a number of years.

Dance music is what they play and they can play it the way you like it. Want to make sure you don't have to yell during a conversation? No problem: they can play softly swinging background or dinner music. Want it so loud you can't think? Sorry, they won't do that, but they can turn up the volume to where you're moved to dance and it's clear they are the room's strongest presence.

The music they play is probably best described as intergenerational swing and rhythm and blues. Tunes like In The Mood, Satin Doll, Take The A Train, Kansas City, Night Train, Lucille, Tequilla, Georgia, Mack The Knife, Sweet Georgia Brown...basically everything from Gershwin and Ellington to Little Richard, the Beatles and Spyro Gyra. They play tunes that people of all ages love, and they do it in a contemporary, swinging style. About all they don't do is country and Top 40.

They are professionals who have been together since 1985. They are conscientious, reliable and eager to perform what will please you. They come in four sizes: trio, quarter, quintet and sextet. Most people want the quintet, which consists of sax, guitar, piano, bass and drums, and while they do some vocals, they are largely an instrumental group.
