The excitement of the swing era returns with the music of the Charlottesville Swing Orchestra. This seven piece group performs in the tradition of Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington and Count Basie while featuring the songs of great American composers such as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin and others. The Swing orchestra provides an atmosphere of elegance, energy and sophistication that is responsive to your specific needs. Since its origination in 1985, the Charlottesville Swing Orchestra has enjoyed a growing reputation for musical excellence, versatility and sensitivity to the mood of the moment. The band includes an array of superb musicians with impressive backgrounds and credentials including recording and performance credits with Buddy Rich, Mel Torme, Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Bruce Hornsby and many others. Their collective experience has familiarized them with a wide variety of entertainment situations. Whether performing for large audiences or intimate gatherings, whether the need is for subtle background music, lively dance selections or romantic ballads, the Swing Orchestra exhibits a professionalism and a commitment to great playing that ensures your satisfaction.
The Charlottesville Swing Orchestra has performed for the Virginia Festival of American Film, First Night Virginia, and in concert at the University of Virginia; at historic locations such as Evelynton Plantation, Ashlawn, The "F" Street Club, Montpelier, The Clifton Inn, Prospect Hill Inn, Farmington Country Club, The Jefferson Grand Heritage Hotel, The Colonnade Club and The Country Club of Virginia; at fine hotels: The Boar's Head Inn, The Omni Hotel, The Hilton Hotel, Wintergreen Resort, and Keswick Hall.
They have performed at gala events for Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck, The Darden School, and for sorority and fraternity formals.

expert in all phases of the Jazz Tradition, particularly mainstream jazz.
They have a repertoire of hundreds of jazz compositions from such artists
as Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Lester Young
Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis,
Errol Garner, Stan Getz, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Charles Mingus,
to name a few.
